Road signs are made for the purpose of passing out information to motorists for diverse reason. They are often erected above or by the side of the road, where it can be seen. Road signs are very important as they help; navigate on the road, prevent crash, and help us reach our destination, they must be obeyed to ensure safer roads at all times for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
Signs which are not visible, can pose risk to drivers. There are different road signs with different colors, it is also very important to know what each color stand for and should be able to identify and differentiate them.
Traffic signs– are used for traffic control to provide a smooth and orderly flow of traffic. It is designed to make sure that every driver is kept safe.it has three colors, RED, GREEN AND YELLOW.
RED means stop (this is the best time for pedestrian to cross the road).
YELLOW means be ready and
GREEN means go.
Regulatory Signs– are signs that indicates laws that must be obeyed. They are the most common signs on the road. It includes speed limit sign, no u- turn, stop sign, do no enter and many other sides that communicates the rules of the road. A regulatory sign are usually with black on a white background. Sometimes they appear in red most especially STOP Sign. It has a rectangular shape except for STOP, GIVE WAY and ROUND ABOUT
Warning sign– are signs that warns against hazards condition that is not likely to be life threatening. It includes road conditions, school children crossing, intersections, curved roads, etc. Warning signs are usually black on a yellow background it has a triangle and sometimes a diamond shape around the hazard symbol.
Informatory signs– Informatory signs are noticeable placard that conveys useful information to the public in a clear and simple way, it is usually white on a blue background.
Mandatory signs– are road signs which are used to set the obligation of all traffic. It specifies that an instruction must be carried out. Its symbol is depicted in white on a blue circular background. It shouldn’t be confused with Informatory sign. Both have different background shape, which will help in differentiate both of them.
